The global COVID-19 pandemic has left its mark on the culture sector as cultural events have been canceled around the world. Most of the intercultural events have moved to the online format and the opportunities for sharing culture and language across the oceans on the Internet have expanded.

A young language enthusiast, Ms Ayaulym Sarybaeva from Kazakhstan, founded the LingoBridge project, which has become a safe, youth-driven space with an opportunity for young people from different parts of the world and from different backgrounds to share their thoughts, culture and ideas about building a better future with each other and improve your language skills at the same time.

Traveling abroad to study can be challenging for young people as cultural and language barriers can arise. According to the OECD, about 4.3 million students study at universities outside their home country. In a globalized world, study abroad has become an important factor in order to become a global citizen and acquire intercultural competencies.

On Friday 21 May, UNESCO and the LingoBridge team celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development by organizing an international meeting with youth from four continents to bring young people from all over the world together to promote cultural diversity, freedom of expression and intercultural dialogue.

We will have young speakers from Asia, the Middle East, America, Europe at the meeting to discuss with young participants such topics as the experience of studying abroad, language and cultural barriers, integration, intercultural communication and share their experience of studying in another country.
